Beach!

Photobucket

It's Sunday again, expect the beaches to be filled with people bringing their lechon and kinilaw or just themselves.

Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

Morelos Campus

Photobucket

This is the Morelos Campus of Father Saturnino Urios University, a catholic private university, located at Ambago, Brgy. Libertad.

Permits are needed to take pictures inside the school, so I guess this will have to do.

Healing Hands

Photobucket

This afternoon my ninang (godmother) called the house to tell us that there's a healing mass celebrated by a priest, Fr. Fernando Suarez. She mentioned how this priest is really gifted and how he helped a lot of people already. When I googled Fr. Suarez these are some of the sites that I found= Fr. Suarez, wikipedia.

There's a new telenovela (soaps) in primetime tv (abs-cbn) that's getting positive feedback from the people that surrounds me (I don't watch the soaps). It's about a boy who can heal. When I heard about Fr. Suarez I feel like TV is imitating life.

The day is as scorching hot as yesterday, I hope that people weren't too uncomfortable waiting out in the street.

Cut

This photo was taken last October during my photo excursion at Langihan Market (do you still remember?). I wouldn't have posted this photo because as you can see in the picture the middle guy's face got cut off but there was a bit of a story in this photo.

I was just finished taking photos of a group of street kids clamoring to have their photo taken when the guy with the head cut off saw me and the kids. He wanted me to take a photo of them also. I told them that I have been collecting images that I see around in Butuan for my blog. He said that its great idea because he wants their faces out in the Internet so that the president can see them.

I don't know exactly what he mean by that (probably see their hardship or something- it was so long ago) but since I promised, I feel I have to post his picture even with his face cut off just in case President Arroyo does manage to stumble upon this page in the future and be able to understand what the man said. =)

Rainy Day and Friday

Photobucket

Someone suggested I post a sunset in the beach photo today. Something warm and tropical to take away the winter blues, I figure.

Anyway, my hot and sultry photo-to-be didn't materialize because Butuan is raining cats and dogs. Today is wet and gray and miserable. The perfect day to spend inside playing hammerfall and vampire wars and...

Oh yeah, this photo was taken at Burgos street. Good morning/evening everyone!

Photobucket

When I was taking pictures at Brgy. Agao I met his friendly man who showed me around and introduced me to the folks there. I'm really sorry I didn't write my trip there right away because now I've forgotten his name.

Shot from the hip.

It's good to be back. I have been out of town for the past few days. This is the reason I haven't been replying to your comments lately. I appreciate the comments by the way, despite my absence you still managed to drop your much valued thoughts and encouragements. Salamat! Thank you!

friendship

Photobucket

I was at Barangay Agao last October 30 doing what I usually do whenever I don't have work, take pictures. I saw these two boys playing with cards. They have this deck of special cards that they throw up in the air and I don't know what happens next. I asked them for a picture, and without any prompting from me, they acted as if they were unaware of me, playing it up for the camera. =) Another "candid" shot for my collection.

Alma Mater

Photobucket

San Francisco Street.

Former location of Urios College High School. This is the new FSUU (Father Saturnino Urios Nursing) College of Nursing building(?).

History of FSUU:

In 1901, the Butuan Parochial School was founded by Fr. Saturnino Urios, S.J. and opened its doors to welcome the first pupils. A low building made of bricks adjacent to the old church was built to house the first pupils who trickled in slowly. When the state started asserting its influence and control over public and private schools, the late Fr. Jose Buxo, S.J. was believed responsible for the government recognition of the parochial school. In 1935, the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC - Dutch Congregation) took over the missionary work from the Jesuits. In 1939, the high school was opened.

This became Fr. Urios High School, named after Fr. Saturnino Urios, SJ. After the ravages of war, the slow and tedious work of reconstruction began and once again, the school was on its feet.

n 1947, the high school department turned out its first graduates. In the early 1950's the old brick elementary building had to go to make room for the new church, so a wooden grade school building was constructed along San Francisco St. All grade school classes were then transferred to the new building. In 1970, the name of the school was changed from Fr. Urios College to Urios College. At present, the name is now Father Saturnino Urios University-- the first University in Butuan and CARAGA region.

Quoted from from FSUU website with added info by me.

FSUU Hymn

Seat of wisdom of knowledge,
in this southern Timberland,
Fountain you will always be
of the love of man for man.

In your fold the youth awakens,
in the sacred, noble truth,
That for man to find happiness
is to serve his fellowmen.

FATHER URIOS (Urios College), hail to you!
We your children far and near,
Shall your truth forever hold,
Shall your name forever bear.

Corners

Photobucket

JC Aquino Avenue corner AD Curato Street

This is a photo someone asked of me a couple of months ago. I don't know if the guy who requested this is still following this blog, it was such a long time ago. I'm sorry it took so long. It was only recently that I felt inspired to take this picture. To the guy who requested this: I hope you enjoyed this one wherever/whoever you are. =)

This building is now offering vacant space for lease.

Working on the Edge

Photobucket

We are, I admit, a nation filled with text addicts. Hooked. Our nimble fingers capable of navigating the keypads even without looking at it-- The memory of its lay out is engraved in our heads.

This guy in the street is selling cell phone load for passersby. Maybe it's off peak time when I took this because there's nobody around buying a load from him.
