Parol in the Corner

Parol vendors are busy plying the streets carrying their colorful parols. I asked him for a photo
and he obliged with a smile.

Parol is what Filipinos call the christmas lantern. When I was still a student parols are usually a part of the school projects when its nearly christmas season (months that ends in -er). These christmas lanterns are usually shaped like a star and decorated by shiny papers. The frame is made up of bamboo sticks tied with string to make it into its traditional star shape. According to wikipedia --"Its shape is said to be inspired by the star on the Nativity of Jesus that guided the Magi to the manger. It also symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and the Filipinos' hope and goodwill during the Christmas season."

I hope I took a clear photo cause I wouldn't know the difference anymore. Video card problem, among others. Hope you're having a fantastic day!
