Pancit Palabok at Tree Garden

Pancit Palabok--- a round rice noodle (often specifically labelled for pancit luglug or palabok) smothered with a thick, golden shrimp sauce or other flavored sauce, and topped with:
  • Shrimp, (the size and shell-on or shell-off depending on preference)
  • Crushed or ground pork rind (chicharron) for toppings
  • Hard-boiled egg (sliced into disc or quartered lengthwise or chopped)
  • tinapa flakes (smoked fish)
  • freshly minced green onion

Palabok are a communal comfort food, and can be found at nearly all Filipino potluck parties. They are best made and eaten in batches for they are easily consumed. Wikipedia.

I haven't had the pleasure of eating at Tree Garden until today because my life takes me to a rather limited parts of the city. So today, I'm happy to do something new, courtesy of BDP's first guest photographer doc Anne (of the aerial photo of Butuan).

Yummy! Gusto mo ang palabok ng Jollibee? Kasi Jollibee naman ang post ko ngayon. Hehehe!

Haha... I've tried a jollibee palabok once. I think it was at Iligan or Cagayan de Oro City and it was very salty. I got turned off from Jollibee Palabok forever and ever. People say its not so bad but I won't risk it again. I'd rather have their spaghetti. Hehe

What I like about Tree Garden Palabok meal is that it comes with three pieces of lumpia shanghai.

But my favorite palabok is at Red Apple's.

It wasn't bad. :) The first time I tried palabok I hated it. It tasted weird. But it kinda grows on you, Tammie. :)

You mention in one of the comments above, that that's lumpia on the side right? is that like an egg roll or a spring roll?

my husbands best friend growing up was from the Phillipines and his mom always used to make homemade lumpia. My husband still talks about it, decades later.he loved it.
