Tae Bo at City Hall

Photobucket

Every saturday, very early in the morning, there is a Tae-bo exercise at Capitol grounds. You can see people from the very young to the not so young kicking and dancing to the beat.

Capitol drive and J Rosales Avenue are two of the places in Butuan where health conscious people flock to (very early in the mornings).

Ecological Eating--Isaw

Photobucket

"I've long believed that good food, good eating, is all about risk. Whether we're talking about unpasteurized Stilton, raw oysters or working for organized crime 'associates,' food, for me, has always been an adventure"
— Anthony Bourdain
(I, Lyra, love anthony bourdain)

This is isaw, a skewered chicken intestine. Here in Butuan you can find this delicacy along AD Curato (across Butuan Central Elementary school). As I said Isaw is chicken intestines cleaned inside out, sometimes boiled (adobo), and then barbecued.

It took me ages to muster the courage to try these kind of foods. I've tried this and one other that looks even weirder than this. I keep asking which part of the chicken it was and I still can't picture it out. Anyway, isaw tastes good. Its pretty cheap at 1 peso (or 2) only. So far I haven't been sick eating street foods yet *knock on wood 3 times.* So come on and try it. It's nearly Halloween anyway =)

Yellow Multicab

Photobucket

Photo taken by Mr. Dave Piencenaves at Burgos street. The yellow vehicle is what we call a multi-cab. Multicabs are commonly used as a public utility vehicle but in this instance it's not. This is not the route of the multicabs, only tricycles are allowed to pick up passengers here.

Thanks Dave for the Pic! :)

Slight Photo editing was done by me.

Iglesia ni Cristo

Photobucket

As I mentioned in my previous post I admire Iglesia ni Cristo's (Filipino for Church of Christ)churches. They are quite beautiful and well maintained. You can find that in almost every city or town there's a certain similarity to their structure and colors. Subdued colors in light beige, tan, etc.-- and the aforementioned spires.

Spire

Photobucket

This photo was taken during the same walk-and-shoot my cousin I had one Sunday. This is the spire of a church. A distinctive trademark of their church's architecture. According to wikipedia, the spires are described as either gothic or oriental. I'm tempted to leave this as a guessing game to all Filipino readers that I have-- its that distinctive but I changed my mind.

This is a photo of a spire of Iglesia ni Cristo- The largest indigenous christian organization originating here in the Philippines. I will write some more about Iglesia ni Cristo when I post a more clearer image of their building tomorrow.

BDH Race For Good Health

Photobucket

BDH is Butuan Doctors' Hospital, one of the premier tertiary hospitals in Butuan. They celebrated its foundation day last October 9. As part of the festivities they included a fun run for health that happened last October 4 in the early morn. Which means I wasn't there to catch a firsthand glimpse of the activity.

They had a 3 kilometer and 5 kilometer race. A turnout of approximately 1000 participants. The route was from BDC open grounds(Butuan Doctors' College, my alma mater ;P) to Jose Rizal Plaza going through the main road of JC Aquino Avenue.

There was an awarding ceremony post fun run. There was a top ten finishers for each event with special prizes for the youngest kiddie finisher, senior runners and top 3 lady racers.

Marang Mobile Store

Photobucket

I took this photo one afternoon. The marang we bought from this vendor was ripe and delicious. It was milky and sweet plus it was cheap. Ten to fifteen pesos per fruit. I like how the boy posed for the picture and also how his mom covered her face with clothe. It's a multipurpose, the cover, I think. One is to ward off dust and smoke and the other is to prevent skin darkening (yeah me and the skin darkening effects of the sun).

Butuan City Hall Grounds

Photobucket

This is Butuan City Hall. A photo taken when my cousin and I went on our walk and shoot Sunday activity (last sunday). The light was a tad interesting and we managed to walk all the way from my house to this spot just when the sun was setting- a productive day if I say so myself. Exercise and photography in one.

We were outside (you can see the previous post to see what I mean) shooting through the gate.

City Library

Photobucket

My cousin and I had our walk and photograph bit last Sunday. We walked from our house to city hall taking lots of photos along the way. It was a 2 kilometers walk probably.

We saw a lot of things to take photos of along J. Rosales Ave. One of the things along this thoroughfare is the city library. A relatively new building that was close coz it was Sunday. I think it was a blessing, since we couldn't go inside- locked gate- we had to take pictures through the gate. (The colors were awful hence this overly saturated editing of the photo using photoscape. =)

The city library is supposed to hold documents on local history among other important literature. Those three statues in front of the building symbolizes the American, Japanese and Filipino soldiers during the last world war. (I thought they all look Caucasian but that's just me). A war monument.

If you want to go surf the net for free you can visit the city library too.

Glee

Photobucket

This photo is one of the photos taken during the shoot my friend Joanne and I had a couple of months ago. You can see in the picture two laughing women walking in the street with one woman carrying an umbrella. I've been told that not everyone around the globe uses the umbrella during rainy time and sunny season too so I've been taking it for granted. Filipino women don't usually like getting dark. So I have a question, do you use an umbrella when its hot or only when its raining?

Have a fantastic weekend ahead!
