A couple of minutes away from Butuan City proper, there is a site where scholars and historians claim the first Easter mass took place on March 21, 1521 called Bood (means "hill" in Butuanon) Promontory. Just like the name implies (Bood "Hill"- Promontory- "a point of high land" according to Google, it is set on a hill overlooking the Masao river- also an important place for pre-history/history buffs because this is supposedly the place where trading between Butuan and other ancient kingdoms in China and other Southeast Asia took place.
If you're looking for a quiet place for a picnic, photo-shoot or just to re-imagine the ancient Butuanon landscape, this is the place. This could be a good starting point where you explore all of the historical sites of Butuan.
