Another Jollibee store is going to open along JC Aquino Ave, Estacio village. This is like those jokes where this building seemed to just sprout up out of nothing overnight hehe at least it seemed to me that it did.

Jollibee is one of the top-- or the top fast food franchise here in the Philippines.

Sunday Night at the Park

This photo was taken right after the mass ended at around 7pm. There are people everywhere. Most of the people who heard mass hanged out at the park to enjoy the well-lit, newly-decorated-with christmas-lights plaza.

I didn't catch it in this photo but there were a bunch of those new glimmering toys that one throws a hundred feet up in the air (not sure about the distance) jumping up and down as we pass through the park.

My friend commented at facebook (I link this blog to fb) that I should ask some funding from the local government (tourism) because of my endorsement of Butuan. My reply is the "liking," repeat visits, your valuable comments, occasional click on my ads, not plagiarizing my stuff, acknowledging and return linking to this page, and maybe (cross fingers) future donation on my site are enough for me. :D

Burger Multiplied by Two

When I was in Manila I've seen a lot of stalls selling buy one take one burgers. I tried one once when I was really hungry but it was like eating paper. Tasteless. When I got back from my trip I saw Rose bakeshop selling this buy one take one burger promo too but I was hesitant to try it because of my previous experience.

To cut it short: Rose bake shop's burger is now a regular snack for me and my cousin. 32 pesos for two burgers is a good deal. It is more flavorful than one would expect. Although that same cousin will be observed muttering, "meat extenders...mmmm...good," every time she eats one.

Puto Pao

It's a combination of puto (usually round steamed rice cake) and siopao (steamed bun with meat filling). You can buy it here in Butuan at Ground Zero Cafe at Pizarro Street across from Timberlanes. If you've never tasted this before, be sure to drop by the cafe and try it. It's delicious and filling. If you like puto and/or siopao you might like this too.

A box of puto pao is a good (if not better) alternative to buying a box of donuts or other sweets as gifts.

Grand Lotto

The latest buzz in the whole Philippines is, who will win the grand Lotto? The current pot money of nearly 700 million is the biggest prize money since Lotto started in the Philippines in 1995. The figure last Saturday was 693,229,971.60 million pesos.

Since January this year, nobody has yet won the grand Lotto prize money. This is why every PCSO (Philippine Charity Sweepstakes office) outlets are getting good business from everyone who dreamed of winning big.

Honestly, I'm afraid for the person (persons) who will win that much amount. But that didn't stop me two Saturdays ago to buy a ticket :)

If you win 700 million pesos, what will you do with your winnings? :)

I saw two street sweepers pass by a street in Langihan while I was waiting at the slipper store. Both are clothed from head to foot. Understandable in the hot weather we had that day.

I am noticing how "cleaner" Butuan is nowadays.

This is the second series of my slipper post. As I mentioned a few days ago, Share the Blessings foundation is planning to distribute slippers at three schools in Agusan del Sur.

This is one of the two stores that I bought the bulk of the slippers from. We bought approximately 590 pairs of slippers from this store.

While waiting for the proprietor I noticed this huge slipper hanging in front. Funny I didn't notice it when I first arrived.

Palabok from Jollibee

The first time I tried eating Palabok at Jollibee (I think it was either at CDO or Iligan) I was instantly turned off. It was salty. How salty? It's like eating rock salt. That's how bad it was. Since then I haven't eaten Palabok in any Jollibee outlets until a couple of years from that first time.

In between those times I longed for palabok at Red Apple here in Butuan and palabok at Tree Garden. I thought that Jollibee's palabok was intentionally that awful. I am glad that I gave Jollibee a chance and tried their orange colored noodles again.

Children's Rubber Slippers... or Lack of

This past few weeks all I have been thinking (during my extra moments) are slippers! Slippers! Slippers! How much is it? What kinds are durable? Where can I get the cheapest but most durable ones? Are there wholesalers here in Butuan? What about nearby cities? Why can't I search for them online? What colors would children like? The simple kind or with designs?

The reason I am unnaturally preoccupied with this object is because of my new affiliation with a group of people at Share the blessing foundation.

So far the most promising wholesaler that I found is at Langihan market. For just 260 Pesos you can buy one dozen rubber slippers. If you know of a store that has a cheaper price, please let me know.

This is what greeted me when I went outside the house just before the start of Pacquiao vs Margarito fight early today. Empty streets. Quiet. Inside the house when I went back inside is the opposite. My cousin, and grandma plus the blare of the TV more than make up for the silence in the streets.

This post is dedicated to Manny Pacquiao's recent win in the light middle weight division in boxing. This is his 8th world title in 8 weight divisions.

Tonight is the concert by Tanduay's First Five featuring Bamboo, Chicosci, Kamikazee, Sandwich and 6cycle Mind at the sports center.

I asked my brother, who is 14, why he didn't go with my father to the concert. He said it's only for 18 years and above. Oops of course it is. Tanduay an alcoholic drink (Tanduay Philippine Rhum) plus a rock concert equals...

A Girl Under the Mangrove Trees

When I took this photo, I felt it would be an interesting picture. The framing of the trees on the girl and the questions that passed through my mind: What is she doing? She looks so lonely, why is she alone? etc.

2010 FSUU Annual Alumni Homecoming

For the third time I have posted the yearly major event of most Butuanons: The High School Alumni reunion. For a few days in May, the Alumni of two of the major schools Agusan National high school and Urios High school now called FSUU (Father Saturnino Urios University, come home to Butuan to get reunited with former classmates. This means every alumnus from the year 2010 and older get together in one venue to reminisce, be nostalgic with the past and to look forward to what the future may bring.

FSUU celebrated the said event last Saturday while Agusan National High School celebrated theirs last May 9 (I think).

Philippine Election

Amidst the rains, long queues, the first Philippine automated election has finally ended at seven o'clock this evening. Now we wait for the results of this exercise of our democratic right.

There were 10 presidential candidates vying for the top job in the Philippines and I'm hoping that the most qualified, with the most love and dedication for our country will win the election. This goes too with the other candidates running for the other government positions in national and local levels.

One of the newer pizza shop in Butuan is Calda's pizza, best known for its super thin crust and giant sized pizza. My cousin and her friend went there earlier for a late snack/early dinner after our out of town trip. Two regular pizzas ordered and 5 slices of pizza eaten and we were done. Yum.

Last night my cousin went to the sports complex and happened to see a huge crowd in the grandstand area. It was apparently the political rally of the incumbent local leaders in Butuan.

From sports complex we passed by Otis mall and there was a group of people and it looked like it was the other party holding a rally too. We asked other passersby and they say that it was.

On Monday, we will be having our local and national election. There are political slogans everywhere. Most of the conversations I'm sure would be injected with a lot of political discussions. All I can say is, God bless the Philippines.

(Sorry I'm bad at this kind of thing.)
